• City Closures & Cancellations

    City Hall and other City of Statesboro administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd, and will delay opening until 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 23rd.


    The City Council work session and council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, January 21st, have been canceled. The rescheduled meetings will take place on Tuesday, January 28th, at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. in the City Hall council chambers.


    Statesboro Municipal Court has been canceled for Tuesday, January 21st. Thursday’s hearings are tentatively scheduled to take place. The court will contact everyone on the docket for Thursday if those proceedings are also canceled.


    Statesboro Area Transit will be closed on Monday for the MLK Jr. Holiday and closed Tuesday through Thursday for the winter storm. Transit services will resume Friday, pending road conditions.


    The Statesboro-Bulloch Landfill will also be closed on Wednesday, January 22nd and will reopen at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday with weather permitting.

  • Warming Shelters

    Pittman Park United Methodist Church will open a warming shelter on Monday, January 20th, starting at 5:00 p.m. Doors will stay open until 10:00 p.m. No readmittance after 10 p.m. The church will continue to monitor the weather each day to determine how long the shelter will stay open.     Preparedness Tips: The winter storm could bring dangerous road conditions, burst water lines, and power outages. Continue to monitor your local weather channels and take time to prepare now by stocking up on groceries, having a safe heating plan in place, and winterizing water pipes.     Preventing Frozen Pipes:

    • Seal cracks and holes properly
    • Use heating tape to prevent freezing.
    • Keep the heat in your home at a minimum of 55 degrees Fahrenheight
    • All your faucets to drip overnight to relieve pressure
    • Insulate pipes that are located in cold, drafty places inside the home
    • Disconnect all outside hoses

  • School Closures

    Bulloch County Schools-

    Bulloch County Schools will ​c​ontinue to be closed on Thursday, January 23​ for students and employees​. A decision regarding school operations for Friday will be announced by 2 p.m. on Thursday. Additionally, the Bulloch County Board of Education’s work session, which was originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, will be ​r​escheduled.


    Georgia Southern University-

    GSU is moving to remote operations for all campuses on Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22. Once an official determination that all campuses are safe is made, an “all clear” will be issued via EAGLE ALERT.
    Classes will be held online on Tuesday and Wednesday. Students should check Folio for updates. All in-person University events are canceled during the time of remote University operations.


    Ogeechee Tech-

    Ogeechee Technical College has transitioned all classes to remote instruction starting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. The campus will close at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday and remain closed through Thursday, January 23. The campus is scheduled to return to normal operations on Monday, January 27, unless otherwise noted.
