Planning & Development

The Department of Planning & Development is responsible for the economic and community development of our city.  These services include building permitting and project management, planning services, and code compliance. The role of the Planning & Development Department in Statesboro is multifaceted and crucial for shaping the present and future of the community. It essentially acts as the steward of the built and natural environment, balancing growth, preservation, and the overall quality of life. The department is broken into 3 divisions:

  1. Planning & Zoning
    • Responsibilities include Land Use, Comprehensive Planning, Housing Planning, and Plan Review
  2. Building Inspections
    • Responsibilities include Vertical Construction Inspections and Enforcement of the Building Code
  3. Code Compliance
    • Responsibilities include Enforcement of the International Property Maintenance Code, and Various Nuisance Codes
